Work Begins on College Street Improvements
Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 9:09PM The contractor, Layton Construction, has started work on the College Street
College Street Constructionimprovements (from Pearl Street to Thresher Street) and is currently installing the new waterline. That will be followed by the removal of existing curbs and the installation of new curbs.
After the new curbs have been installed, the top layers of the existing asphalt pavement will be removed by a milling machine and then the street will be paved with new asphalt.
To expedite the project, the contractor will be working four 10-hour days per week. That leaves an extra day (Friday) for rescheduled work if one of the other days is rained out. Weather permitting, the contractor hopes to complete most of the work by the Fourth of July.
During the project, traffic on College Street may limited to local traffic only in the areas where the contractor is working. Through traffic is strongly encouraged to avoid the construction area.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this project may cause, but the project will be relatively short in duration and will result in improved water services for the College Street residents as well as an improved road surface. The total cost of the project is approximately $785,300.
