DISCUSSION ON ANNEXATIONS
Council conducted a lengthy discussion on future annexations to
the Village, immediate costs both to the Village and its residents,
and long term benefits.
A proposal by the Granville Township Trustees to preserve
the integrity of the Granville Village Exempted School District
was also discussed at length. This discussion led to questions
from some in attendance that there is an immediate interest of
some property owners to annex a portion of Granville Township
territory east of the Village into Newark, engulfing a substantial
portion of the Granville Exempted School District area.
Because of the fact that development in the Granville area
east of the Village is inevitable, and a strong interest to
preserve the Granville Exempted School District has been expressed
by those who live in this area, and; those in attendance this
evening, and the apparent need to make as strong a formal
commitment to these people as possible, Council directed the
Village Manager to get together cost figures along with impact
data and a time frame in which the Village could promise utilities
and services to this area, prior to the July 6th meeting.
Consensus of Council was that an opportunity for the Village
to be in control of their destiny and have a say in how future
development will look has come about and that serious consideration
of the facts and figures will need to be reviewed and
analyzed as quickly as possible.
