Granville Tree and Landscape Commission
Meeting of May 10, 2011
Present: Don Hostetter, Lynne Kishler, Don Pheneger, Linda Reynolds
Guests: Jeremy King, Jim Siegel
Minutes of the April meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Don H. gave a final report to Village Council on our Tree City USA event. With 104 paid attendees of the 126 there that day, we are about $300 over our budget, with all our bills paid. An itemized list of our expenditures was prepared by Don. We have received positive comments from many about the day.
The Arbor Day tree-planting ceremony at the intermediate school also went well. Winners of the poster contest were Anna Krempasky, Katherine Stickley, Taylor Ryan, Luke Pritchard, and Jackie Spieles. They received Whit’s gift certificates and t-shirts, which were given to us at a discount. Mike Flood and Albyn’s Nursery prepared the sites for two Ft. McNair horse chestnut trees donated by AEP.
The spring tree removal is running slightly behind. A recent storm damaged the tree at E. College and N. Granger Sts. which was already slated for removal; now it will be done immediately.
Opera House Park Renovation– Don H. proposed continuing our Friday morning meetings to work on this goal, with the first meeting to be a walk-through. John Klauder will be contacted concerning a plan.
Memorial Tree Program – Mollie Prasher has offered to post the program on the village web site.
Don H. and Don P. checked on the trees planted last fall. All look good, with some concern about the tops of the tulip trees on Derwyn Del Way.
Jeremy King announced that the Denison University tree committee has been re-named the Denison Tree and Landscaping Advisory Board. Denison will be having another Davey survey completed. The group is currently negotiating their position with the facilities group, and is working to protect a very large elm tree (160” diameter)near the Fiji House during construction.
Linda reported that the flower order will be delivered tomorrow afternoon.
The next meeting will be June 14, 2011.
