Fall tree planting – The Weinbergs have chosen Swamp White Oak for in front of Monomoy Place. Ann Bonner may have advice on species to plant in the Old Colony Burying Ground. Lynne suggested sugar maples because a better environment exists for them to thrive in the cemetery than in tree lawns.
We considered different tree species for Onnen Court. A list of our recommendations will go to the residents (contact person is Brett Jump.) Possibilities discussed included Kentucky Coffee trees, American Elms, Gingkos, Silver Lindens, Yellowwoods, Tulips, Cucumber Magnolias, English Oaks, Swamp White Oaks, Shumard Oaks, Northern Red Oaks, Sweet Gums, Black Gums, and American Hornbeams. For the extra-large island at the end of the court, we propose three flowering crabapples to go around the fairly new tree in the center. Lynne particularly likes the Prairiefire crabapple variety.
We drove to Onnen Court and placed stakes at possible sites in the tree lawn and the island. Other stakes were located on North Granger Street and on Newark-Granville Road.
Further work will be done on the fall planting list and staking of sites Tuesday, October 1st.
