Granville Tree and Landscape Commission
Friday work session – August 29, 2014
Present: Don Hostetter, Lynne Kishler, Dick Mortensen, Don Pheneger, Jim Siegel
Concerning North Pearl Street – We have no start date yet from AEP for the work replacing the power poles.
Don Hostetter has requested advice from John Klauder for an appropriate hedge for the police dept. parking area. John will also look at the area in front of the post office and make recommendations. Heavy pedestrian and dog-walking traffic have led to die-back in the taxus bushes. Jim Siegel feels the postmaster should be consulted about any landscape work being discussed.
Frits Rizor will be at our next meeting on September 9th and can go over the lists of acceptable street trees and make recommendations. Ann Bonner, ODNR urban forester, sent lists from three towns in her district. It may be a good idea for us to create our own working list for Granille.
Don H. sent a message to John Smith, AEP, about the public forum on the scheduled AEP trimming in the village on October 23rd at the Bryn Du mansion. We need to come up with an official title for the event.
Gloria Hoover at 213 East College St. has turned in a request for removal of a maple tree from her treelawn. We have a request from Laura Joseph for a tree to be planted in front of her home at 216 Sunrise St. A tree was planted there a few years ago, and there is concern that there may not be adequate room in the treelawn for another. We will re-look at the situation.
The remaining time was used reviewing several lists from different areas of acceptable street trees.
