Granville Tree & Landscape Commission

Minutes, June 14, 2016 Meeting

June 15, 2016

Present: Don Hostetter, Don Pheneger, Dick Mortensen, Jim Siegel ex officio

Absent: Lynne Kishler, Linda Reynolds

Official minutes of the May 10, 2015 meeting were reviewed and approved by those present.

The first issue discussed was the spring planting of annuals at the village offices and the West Broadway beds. Linda Reynolds has reluctantly announced that physical limitations will not allow her to continue spring planting, maintenance, and Fall preparation of annual plantings. Part-time help will be needed for future plantings and maintenance activities. Linda will remain as the primary planner and supervisor of the annual planting program. A proposal for additional budgetary support will be drafted for consideration by the Village Manager and the Council.

The white oak donated by Mr. Mike Flood, Albyn’s Landscape & Nursery Center, Newark, Ohio commemorating Jim Siegel’s over 27 yrs service to the Village T&LC will be scheduled at Bryn Du Mansion. Weather permitting, a dedication ceremony will occur in June or July or later during the Fall planting event.

On June 07, 2016 Don Hostetter, Lynne Kishler, and Don Pheneger inspected the 98 trees planted in December, 2015. As of this date, all new trees appeared to have survived the winter months and were judged to be in “good condition.” Rain is desperately needed at this time.

A “Royal Raindrops” crab apple tree will be installed at the Old Colony Burying Ground Cemetery in conjunction with the Granville Historical Society.  A ceremony honoring 25 years of tomb stone preservation work conducted by Mr. & Mrs Fanin will occur in July, 2016.

Representatives from the Village Council, Services Dept., Denison University T&L Committee, and AEP were absent; no reports were available.

Don Hostetter and Terry Hopkins, Director of Services will survey specific tree issue within the Village during a periodic routine “drive about” at 11:00 AM, Wednesday June 15 2016.

Don Hostetter entered a motion “to forgo the July 12 meeting” in observance of the annual July 4th Village celebration of family and class reunions. Don Pheneger seconded the motion and it was approved by those present.

There being no other business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM.

The next T&LC meeting will be August 09, 2016, or as needed depending on events.
